miss katherine elizabeth fox is a bit of an odd child. she's a muggle-born witch in hufflepuff and, as if those two characteristics didn't make settling in difficult, a seer. she prefers to keep her talents quiet though will use them to her advantage in divination. despite all of the reasons for people to avoid her and her strange nature, she is a genuinely nice person. she has a group of friends that say some things she definitely doesn't agree with but she has to stick with them for fear of ending up alone if she stopped doing so. all she really needs is a chance to prove herself as equal to her peers and she'd make sure it was well-used if such an opportunity presented itself to her.
jeremy is a popular kid. every girl wants to date him and every guy wants to be him. he's on the quidditch team and probably one of the best players in the school. he's had too many girlfriends to count and is the type of guy that uses the same chat-up and break-up line for each girl. kate isn't immune to his charm but she keeps a strong defence against him because she doesn't want to be just another girl he's been with. he gets dared to ask her out and make her think she's special and he does so. kate makes the stupid decision to say yes, thinking that all of her dreams could be about to come true. he drops her a few days later and walks off laughing with his mates but there's a part of him that wants to turn back and apologise to her. she's in tears by the lake one night and he overhears her talking to herself about how she thought everything was going to change for her but she'd let her guard down and got her hopes up. jem then either apologises to her or walks away because he doesn't really know what to say. they pass each other in the corridor and he pulls her into an empty classroom to talk to her. he apologises and asks if she'd give him another chance. she says no because she doesn't want her heart broken again and leaves. he grows to like her, she realises he's different around her compared to how he is around his friends. unsure if she can trust him, she speaks to her bestest bestie (the only person in her little group that she doesn't dislike) scarlett morgan for an outsider's opinion because kate can't see her own future, eventually giving jem another chance.
