archive as started in october. this was it. beth knew exactly what was going to happen, she'd had plenty of time to work it out, but she had no choice. you could only live off the wages of a cashier for so long when you're used to a life of luxury, and when you were training as an auror at the same time, you worked less days, so you got less money. so you had to come home to the place you never wanted to see again. dalton estate had never looked more... cold. it wasn't the nicest of days with halloween just around the corner.
the door didn't look welcoming. her bedroom window was exactly the same as it had been when she had left seven months ago, and she could still remember standing there as she stared at the castle, tears rolling down her cheeks at the fact that her parents were pushing her into something she really didn't want to do, and as usual, they refused to hear her point of view, let alone care about what it consisted of. yet again, she was being forced into something, but this time they had pushed her too far. marriage wasn't one of those things that you should be able to force upon someone, but they just didn't realise that. they assumed that simply because their marriage had been arranged and they were still somewhat happy about it, that every other arranged marriage would be the same.
beth had tried to escape her fate, but without access to the money she had depended on for her entire life, she had to return 'home'. was it home anymore? home was where you felt safe, where there were people that you could talk to, where you could go to sleep and know that tomorrow, everything would be okay. this wasn't home anymore, not when she knew her parents would be waiting behind those doors demanding an explanation for her absence, and then presenting her with whoever it was she would have to marry. as much as both she and chris hated it, there would be a marriage, beth would be the bride, and she wouldn't be marrying someone that she had chosen for herself.
pushing open the door, beth looked around the hallway. her hair was pulled up to try and finish off her outfit. it probably wouldn't work all too well, but she hoped that if her parents saw she had come back home looking like a dalton and appeared perfect so as to make the man think highly of their family, they wouldn't be too harsh on her. bethany had her excuses prepared, not that her parents would give her a chance to use them, and was as ready as she ever would be to meet the man she would be forced into marrying. she assumed her parents would speak with her first, but as soon as she got the chance, she was going straight upstairs to josh.

I ' l l m a k e i t t h r o u g h e a c h d a y SINGING DEATH OR GLORY -- -- -- -- -- -- priscilla ava dalton had been arranged to marry andrew, and it was her parents that had chosen their partners and arranged the marriage. at first she had resented the match, as had andrew, and she'd done what she could to get out of it, from begging and crying, to attempting to run away. She didn't get that far, because she didn't think it through as well as she should have. She only kept enough money for a week and she was hungry and had no where to go. She'd headed back to her mothers house after a night in a crappy and run down hotel, and gave up after that. she knew there was no way out of it and she knew that she shouldn't even bother and just accept her fate. she'd helped with the wedding plans after that, and after saying i do at the alter, it wasn't long until she saw the side of andrew that no one else got to see. it was then that she fell head over heels in love with him, and knew that they were perfect for each other. she couldn't be happier then with her parents decision, and promptly thanked them for their good choice. if it wasn't for them, she wouldn't have a husband that she trusted truly, or relied upon, or could love without needing to force it. without them she wouldn't have these kids or this house, or even this life. without this marriage, she could have ended up living in some hostel after being an idiot and marrying some poor, silly, bad blooded man who would do no right by her at all. but instead she got andrew, the caring, loving, amazing man that she called her husband. sure, many people would disagree with the caring and loving parts that she'd just mentioned, but it wasn't as if they knew that side to him. priscilla did. she knew every side to andrew. husband, lover, father, friend, brother, provider, protector, she'd seen them all, played out before her eyes, and she knew the real him, even though many people never got the chance to say that. she did.
priscilla had been sat in the family study, overlooking the grounds near the entrance when she had seen a little blonde haired dot on the outskirts of the estate. priscilla rose from the chair she was sat in and placed the book to one side, standing by the window. here she was, and looking good too, which was nice to see. at least she looked like a dalton. you see, today was the day that bethany was to meet the man that andrew and priscilla had arranged for her to marry. he would make her bethany priscilla nott, and she couldn't be more happy with that choice. as far as she knew, he would arrive soon, and bethany had made it just on time. good girl. swooping down into the entrance hall at the foot of the stairs to meet her, priscilla crossed her arms and surveyed her daughter, her lips pursed. she crossed to her without a word and started walking around bethany, surveying her outfit choice. at least she didn't turn up in a track suit and trainers, as byron would think that the dalton's were some sort of commoners and then he would not want to marry bethany, and they would have to look for a husband again, and that had taken long enough the first time. you see, many people were intimidated by the dalton's, others had heard about the reputation that they had, and so didn't want to get involved with a family who's kids had been known to set the bed of their parents on fire over some toffee sweets.
as far as priscilla was concerned, marrying a dalton was one of the best things that could happen, and it was one of the best things that had happened to her. but as far as bethany was concerned, marriage didn't seem like her cup of tea. she had assumed therefore, that like herself, bethany had made her choice to run away too. at first she'd bought joshua's excuses that she was just late, but the longer and longer she left it, the more priscilla started to doubt that excuse. she knew bethany would have one of her own, but she didn't want to know it. "well at least you turned up looking acceptable, although I do wish you'd have come home a little earlier so I could have prepared you. you are to stand up straight, use all the manners that you have been taught, and you will be polite. there is no excuse for making this family look bad and i do not want you doing that. understood?"
priscilla instructed, in a rather biting tone. she'd been more upset that her own daughter had chosen to run away than to allow her mother to make a good decision for her future. although, priscilla understood better than bethany had thought. how convenient it was that her mother was the first person she met upon returning home. beth had been hoping for josh or evie, heck, even isabella would have been better than her dear old mummy. nevertheless, she was home now, and there was no doubt that her mother would be sending for her husband-to-be within moments, unless he was already there that is. which did she prefer? she had no desire to meet the man, but the sooner she got it out of the way the better.
priscilla was clearly unimpressed, but bethany wouldn't be making any apologies. that wasn't a talent she possessed, and that was something she put down to not having an example to follow. her parents felt you should only apologise if you're in the wrong, and so being as stuck up as they were, they had probably never even considered saying the word sorry in their entirely lives, except perhaps to save their own necks. beth was pretty darn similar, as much as she strived to be different, but there were some things you just couldn't help.
"would you expect anything less of a dalton?" bethany replied to her mother, supressing her attitude towards her mother as best as she could. there would always be an undertone of it to her voice, but nothing her mother would think was out of her character. she almost slipped out a laugh as her mother told her about manners that she had been taught. okay, so she had been taught etiquette and all of that sort of thing, but very little of what was expected outside of the boundaries of her home.
"i wouldn't dream of doing such a thing." priscilla would have to be completely thick not to note the sarcasm in her voice at that point, though if she matched her current impression of her mother, then her retort would go unnoticed. "anyway, where is the delightful man you've picked out for me?" bethany knew to control how much of her anger and annoyance to let out in front of her mother. to be quite honest, she didn't particularly want to be covered from head to toe in boils and blisters, something she knew priscilla was very capable of doing if she stepped over the line.

I ' l l m a k e i t t h r o u g h e a c h d a y SINGING DEATH OR GLORY -- -- -- -- -- -- priscilla was not impressed. it was easy to tell too, by the look etched onto her features, but she would pull herself together when she was faced with byron, the wonderful boy that bethany dalton was engaged to marry. he was a pure blood, and proud of it, and he would surely be aware of the worth of a dalton, and he would be the one to make her a nott. in turn, joshua would marry jaslene and she would take the last name of dalton, thus returning the number of people with the dalton surname. and, in one swoop the dalton family was gaining a son in law and a daughter in law that they could be proud of. no doubt, that joshua and bethany would learn to apreciate what priscilla and andrew had done for them. it was a good gift, to give them such great spouses, and they should be greatful for their parents wisdom.
priscilla was many things, but deaf or dumb wasn't any of them. "Hm, I see that your sarcasm and dazzling wit hasn't diminished. lets hope that your future husband will stand it, because if you use that tone with me again, i will not.
priscilla said, crossing her arms and circuling her daughter once more. she was proud at least, that she'd raised such a composed and beautiful daughter, and she was also proud that bethany had made such a match as byron. he was high among the pure blood rank, and priscilla hoped that he would set a good example for bethany, and eventually make her realise that love isn't everything. with stability and tolerance, love will follow, although it would take a while if bethany remained so opposed to the idea of marrying byron, and also if she remained so stubborn. and if priscilla knew bethany, her stubborn streak wouldn't go away easily. "he is in the drawing room. be proud, be good, be ladylike, be nice, and remember who you are." priscilla recited the same advice that her mother had given her before her marriage to andrew, and it had proved to be good advice. there was a drawing room downstairs, with some comfortable armchairs and a nice fireplace, it was where the dalton family entertained after dinner, and it was where she'd personally led byron, a few moments earlier to wait for bethany. andrew had stayed with him for a moment or two to chat, but had left, and now he was waiting. he would learn to do a lot of that with bethany, as priscilla was sure that bethany would enjoy making him wait for her. she'd push his limits, no doubt. priscilla led the way to the door and opened it, waiting for bethany to go in before she removed herself. priscilla wasn't going to sit in with them to make sure bethany was behaving. she wasn't a toddler, she didn't need a nanny anymore. bethany knew that her parents would never want the number of daltons to decrease, but it wasn't a name they were willing to just throw out to anybody either. what she didn't know was the circumstances in which the marriages had been decided. if her parents had always intended to select a husband for her, then she may have indirectly taken joshua's freedom away by forcing him into a marriage too to keep their number constant. alternatively... well, the only alternative really was that they'd intended to make the choice for her brother from the start anyway.
"it's what makes me who i am. losing those qualities would be like losing an arm or the colour of my hair." what was amusing about that statement, to bethany anyway, was that she had lost the colour of her hair, or at least changed it. beth had been considering reverting back to brown but knew it would please her parents more than she wished to do so with the current situation. her aim was to make their lives as difficult as possibly, which would have been easy on her part if it had been anyone else, but they were just as stubborn, if not more so, as she was. it would be a challenge, but not impossible.
well wasn't that just fantastic. her suitor was in the house at that very moment, and not even thirty seconds away from where she stood. perhaps if she'd kept her mouth shut for a few more minutes she could have prolonged their meeting for a little longer, but beth wasn't the type to keep her thoughts to herself. 'proud, when am i not? ladylike, when am i not? remember who i am, when do i not? good and nice on the otherhand, that may take some effort.'
bethany followed her mother towards the door of the drawing room. the door was opened for her and she stood firm outside the doorway for a few moments before stepping inside reluctantly. she half expected her mother to follow her in to ensure she behaved properly, or more appropriately to ensure she didn't murder him, something she had briefly considered as an escape route before realising she'd then have to plan her escape from azkaban prison. if her parents thought she was willing to go through with the marriage, they might give her a little more space and a little more time to think of a way out.

okay, yeah, this wasn't scary at all. why in his right mind would byron john nott, the nex domino member, the transfiguration teacher at hogwarts, be scared of meeting the girl that he was going to spend the rest of his life with? he wouldn't, he was a big boy, he could handle himself, right? anyone would love to meet the girl that they'd spend the rest of their life with because in general this would mean that they would be meeting the person that they'd be in love with. well, bryon didn't really agree. he didn't know if he'd love her when he saw her, or whether the love would develop over time, or even if the love would develop at all. no, all he knew was that she was pretty, pure blooded, stubborn, smart, and a dalton. that last reason was probably why he was marrying her. she was a dalton, and that meant a whole lot in the wizarding world, especially to the pure blood families who would kill to get a chance at combining their pure blood line with that of the highly powerful and influential daltons. they were well known, and had ties and connections everywhere you could look, and no doubt that they were even pally with the new headmaster of hogwarts.
as a nex domino member, he was well known for being influential too, especially because of his post as the transfiguration teacher. he had seen bethany before, as he'd been temorarliy teaching at hogwarts when she was enrolled, as he was the student teacher, helping out. well now he'd been hired, and had his own office, with his own classes and his own unruly students. he'd had to put a few in detention, but he tried his best not to let things get out of hand. he was quite laid back, and he tried his best to let the children learn in an exciting way, that kept them entertained and interested, so that they didn't walk out the door in a sleepy state. when he himself had been a student at hogwarts, the boring lessons had been terrible, and he hoped that his lessons were a damn sight more interesting than a history of magic, taught in a monotone by someone who looked like they had a moustache, dispite their gender, as she was female. apparently. at least she was long gone from the school, that was a plus, as sharing a staff room with her would have been more monotonous than sitting in her lessons. she would cause him an early death if he hung around long enough.
oh god, the door was opening, the click of heels had alerted him to approaching members, presumably of the dalton family, and unless it was bethany's father, parading around in some heels, then it was bethany or priscilla, and that meant that the time was fast approaching. he was going to meet her officially, and she was probably stood a few feet behind that door. what was she feeling? nervous? angry? what was he feeling? as he'd met her before, he had a rough idea of what she was like, and stubborn was the word that always jumped eagerly into his mind when thinking of this blonde beauty. she was beautiful after all, no man could deny that. and there she was, looking fantastic, as always, although she looked better now that she was out of the hogwarts uniform. he pushed himself out of his armchair and stepped toward her. a smile took over his lips, and he held his head high, proud as ever. "miss dalton. i don't know if you remember me, i am byron nott, i was working at hogwarts around the time that you joined the other pupils?"
he offered, hoping she remembered him, he saw himself as memorable. he paused, unsure of whether her mother was waiting on the other side of the door, listening in. he was also unsure of whether or not she expected him to go up and politely kiss her hand or cheek or whatever, in the gentelmanly and cheesy way.[/blockquote][/blockquote] t a g g i n g bethany dalton l y r i c s superman - joe brooks n o t e i changed my template, i didn't like my old one (; c l o t h e s hurrw o r d s 693. c r e d i t what a dork ! of caution

Oh this was just perfect. Couldn't her mother have taken two minutes to tell her the name of who she was going to marry? They couldn't have picked a worse husband if they'd tried because Beth couldn't admit he was theoretically her perfect match. If she'd known who she would be greeted by upon entering the room, she'd have sprinted back out that door and applied for every job she could to support herself in her pathetic little apartment. But she hadn't told her, and now she was stuck in the room. It wouldn't have surprised her if Priscilla had actually locked them inside and started placing anti-apparition charms on the drawing room.
Byron John Nott. If she hadn't already been in a relationship she would have jumped at the chance just to have a meal with him. He had taught her for quite a few Transfiguration lessons, and she had to admit she had preferred them to those with Alliaeah Washington. Now that Nathan Tyler had dropped Defence Against the Dark Arts in favour of Care of Magical Creatures, she'd probably be filling his place rather quickly as it had been clear ever since she'd started in April that the woman wanted to be on the third floor rather than the first. Beth would only admit to herself that she'd had a crush on him, but then most girls in that year and indeed those in years below had done. She had known nothing would ever happen and had quite happily accepted that and been content to admire him from afar.
Now she was being forced into a marriage with him. It was just like the Hogwarts scenario all over again. She'd wanted to go as a child, and when she had accepted she wouldn't be going and continued with her life, she was made to go to the school. If there was one phrase that sprang to mind right now it was 'Be careful what you wish for'. Bethany had been determined to get out of Hogwarts, but her failure to do so hadn't been the end of the world as it was just for four months. This was something she couldn't fail at because it was for the rest of her life. She just simply couldn't.
Would she be betraying Chris if she gave it a go for a week or two before she started plans to wriggle out of it? Beth couldn't answer that question, not right now anyway. There was someone standing in front of her that required her attention, and her life had been too confusing lately for her to have the energy to ignore him. "Indeed you were. It's nice to see you again." This was awkward. Did she invite him to sit down, or continue standing as a silent protest against him?

Wow. She really did look as pretty as he remembered. Of course, as a student of his, she'd been specifically off limits. Byron had heard that there had been an incident of that sort at Hogwarts in the past, and he wasn't about to end up locked up and then dead in Azkaban, so he'd ignored her beauty, as hard as that was to do. No red blooded man would have been able to forget it completely though, or not notice it at all, and he was sure that even a guy who wasn't interested in women would notice that Bethany Dalton was just about as good as they got. She was pure blood, a Dalton, and pretty. He knew that she had flaws though, he'd even noticed in class that she was quite stubborn, or at least he got that impression. She just seemed as though she was used to getting her own way all the time. Not this time though it seemed. Byron was just happy to do his duty, make a good match and eventually bring some more pure blooded children into the world. And they would be gorgeous too, because Bryon was great looking, he knew that from the young girls who hovered around his feet like an entourage whenever he walked out in a corridor. And as she was so beautiful, as we've mentioned, any kids between the two of them would be of a model standard, surely.
He couldn't help thinking about her before, at least once or twice, and how their ages weren't that different, so should his teaching really effect anything, but it wasn't likely that she'd have accepted a date from him anyway, professor or not. She probably would have said no, even if it was just to spite her parents. He'd heard rumours of her dating, but doubted that any of it was true, and children made up many rumours that he hardly paid attention to, and he couldn't even remember who the rumour was about. Anyway, she didn't seem the type to be unfaithful, and she knew that she was betrothed so she wouldn't have done anything. Not that it mattered, they were going to get married and no amount of tantrums or protests would stop it, whether they be from Bethany herself, or any other guy that seemed to be infatuated with her. He wondered briefly if anyone would care about this marriage, as she was his former student, but that wasn't really breaking the laws so he should be fine. Not that the Dalton's wouldn't have checked, as Priscilla seemed to be meticulous when it came to checking details about this marriage. No doubt she scoured through his family tree enough times to recite it from heart before she agreed to marry them.
"You remember. It's lovely to see you too."
he said, rubbing the back of his neck at the awkwardness. "Shall we sit down? How've you been? What's been happening for you since you left?" he asked, slightly eager to know what his fiancée was up to. Was she working anywhere? Did she have any intention of joining the Nex, just like he had? He hoped she would as it would make her parents very proud of her. It was the reason that he'd joined too of course, and it was also the reason for many other things in his life, this marriage being one of them, although he was happy to do it.[/blockquote][/blockquote] t a g g i n g bethany dalton l y r i c s superman - joe brooks n o t e i changed my template, i didn't like my old one (; c l o t h e s hurrw o r d s 693. c r e d i t what a dork ! of caution

Beth always looked fabulous, that was just what she did. For the past six years she had never eaten a single bite before she had dressed herself and done her hair to a standard satisfactory for her. It was early in the morning that she looked the worst and so she wasn't about to go and eat breakfast looking like a Hairy MacBoon if she wasn't willing to step outside without first applying her makeup, even if it was extremely little compared to some of the tangerines that strutted around Hogwarts.
Byron on the other hand didn't impress her. How dare he turn up at their house to meet the unfortunate woman that would be marrying him in jeans! Jeans! Not even a smart pair of trousers like those he'd have worn for school. The shirt was acceptable to a point, but it was a casual shirt, not a formal shirt. How could she be expected to marry someone that took so little effort in their appearance, regardless of her other romantic engagements or personal thoughts about him as a person. Had he dressed like this during his training at Hogwarts? She didn't recall him having done so, but then her attention had been on his face and his voice, something she wouldn't be caught dead doing now, no matter how attractive he was.
He asked to sit down, something Beth thought was even worse than his dress. You didn't invite yourself to sit down in somebody else's home no matter what their social status was, and he would quite certainly have been cursed had he done so in the presence of her parents. It was the perfect excuse for her to stun him, but he'd recover quickly and still be in good enough condition to marry her. She'd wait for her time, both he and her mother had to think she planned to marry him, otherwise they'd be watching her every move to make sure she didn't try and run off again.
Where would she go even if she did intend to? Priscilla must have known by then that she had been in an apartment in Hogsmeade, and the only other places she could think of were the Leaky Cauldron, the Hog's Head, and the Three Broomsticks. Only the last was of good enough quality for her to even consider staying there, and that was at a push as it was. The Ministry wouldn't help her, but it would have been more that it would have been pointless rather than refusing to assist her with her needs.
"Certainly, I fear my legs may fall out from beneath me if I stand for much longer." Oh, now that was a good one. A medical accident that required her to stay at St. Mungo's for a certain amount of time would be perfect. She could fake her death and then get Evie to help her slip out and live her life with freedom. Actually, that was probably too dramatic, and bound to go wrong at some point.
"I've been well enough, and yourself?" Bethany didn't care how he was, but one of her mother's commandments had been to be polite, and Priscilla was annoyed with her enough as it was. "I've begun training with the Ministry of Magic as an Auror. My brother originally joined me in the training but there are rumours that he has quit and I've had little time to find him and confirm them. You've a post at Hogwarts I presume."

Byron didn't think that he needed to take too much care in his appearence, especially on an occasion like this, he'd chosen to dress casual, but still smart at the same time, so that it wouldn't make things too formal feeling. He was sure that, had he turned up in a suit and tie, it would be even more uncomfortable and awkward than it was now. He had, in fact, set a suit out, but changed his mind at the last minute. If he was going to do this, he was going to be comfortable whilst doing it. Besides, he looked amazing in whatever clothes he wore, not that anyone noticed his dress anymore, because their gaze was usually focused on his face, his lips, his eyes, or zoned out and listening to his voice. At least he kept attention in class, although it wasn't always attention to the subject, which was a shame, as it was an interesting one to learn, and that was why he picked it. Transfiguration was, quite often, a practical lesson, allowing the students to have fun whilst learning, and get out of there seats too, keeping them awake.
At the wedding though, Byron was sure that they'd have him stuck in some uncomfortable and constricting suit that was as far from his teaching outfits as possible. He tended to dress down in lessons now, as he was a full blown teacher and he could do as he pleased when it came to dress. He also figured that the clothes gave the class a less boring atmosphere as he felt more comfortable, and more like himself, which kept the children entertained. It was just another thing to him anyway, and he didn't see how wearing robes would make him teach any better, or the students pay more attention. Bethany, however, didn't seem to impressed, although he could barely see it in her face, there was a hint there. She didn't have the usual look on her face that most girl students wore. He may have seen that look on her face once or twice in the past, but now he'd convinced himself that he was just imagining it on her.
He was glad to be able to sit down, and he was trying his best to introduce a calm, relaxed atmosphere that would hopefully rid them of the awkwardness that was surrounding them. But there was one thing that he was aware of. It was just them. He couldn't hear any signs of her mother at the door, and so he felt a little more relaxed at that. The feeling of being watched wasn't relaxing in the slightest, and although many people would have thought him rude for suggesting to sit down in a house other than his own, he was simply trying to make Bethany more comfortable in her own home, as she still seemed slightly on edge to him. Her response though, and the wording of it, did surprise him slightly, but in a good way. She wasn't giving him short, sharp, answers, meaning that she was at least being polite. "Well, I would hate to see you uncomfortable but in the interests of safety, should your legs collapse beneath you, I'd be there to catch you."
Byron replied with a smile, sure that she wouldn't mind him catching her, with his good looks and brilliant family background. Byron was a catch, and even Beth would have to admit it. "Glad to hear it. I've been busy enjoying life as a fully fledged teacher now. It's very entertaining." he replied with another friendly, but also slightly hollow smile, as if he didn't really feel like smiling, but habit made his lips move. He was glad that he'd been made a teacher, and he was enjoying it very much, he wasn't lying about that. It was always interesting and he felt like he was learning something new every day, although he hoped that it was the students that were doing most of the learning. Although, there were those students who seemed less inclined toward learning all they could. "An Auror? I am impressed! Isn't that dangerous though?" he asked, concerned slightly. He paused for a second to recall her brothers name. "Would that be Joshua? I hear that he's also engaged to the eldest Malfoy daughter. I assume that he's also struggling to find time, fitting in the ministry and his future wife." he added, wondering how Jaslene was taking the news. She seemed very proud and stubborn too, so they would be a good match, but he doubted that she'd taken the news in a calm fashion. Beth moved across the room from the doorway towards the seats with her normal grace, only to be greeted by an unwelcome crack coming from her feet. Her excellent balance kept her standing confidently as she observed the heel on her shoe had snapped, but then this was necessary when you practically lived in heels. She continued towards the chair and sat down, pulling the broken shoe from her foot. "You have no idea how long it took me to find shoes that went with this dress."
Bethany sat it on the coffee table, intending to fix it later when she retrieved her wand from her bags that waited in the hall. Unfortunately none of the dresses she wore provided pockets for her wand, and so carrying either the wand or having it inside a bag became necessary. This wouldn't normally be a bag full of clothes however, as was the case currently after her return from Hogsmeade. "I can assure you that won't be necessary." Had both shoes broken then perhaps she may have required a little assistance to stop her falling to the floor in a most undignified fashion, whether in the form of a spell of her own doing or help from another.
"Entertaining being synonymous for the students never behave appropriately and keep you busy?" Beth could never tolerate a teaching position, whether this was because she was so unfamiliar with the school environment or that she would quite easily lose her temper and send a student to the hospital wing she could not say, but it definitely wasn't a career path she'd be resorting to in a hurry. "Why would it be dangerous? It's not as if there's an entire group of wizards practicing dark magic or anything, just a few isolated incidents." Byron would have to be completely stupid not to have acknowledged the rumours, though his belief in them was a different matter. Bethany had heard rumours, and she'd also heard confirmation from Kaylee Fletcher and indirectly from her parents.
"Yes, it is, and I'll have you know that the eldest Malfoy daughter has a name and you'd do well to remember it" she snapped at him, not taking at all kindly to his arrogance that he could refer to people by something other than their actual name. Her reaction would have been like that to anybody but it wouldn't have bothered her so much if he'd been referring to someone like Trevor Schumacher or Annie Carter, though with Jaslene being her sister-in-law, or at least soon to be anyway, it wasn't appreciated. "Even so, I certainly shalln't be quitting my training to make room for a husband no matter how charming. I may have no choice in my marriage but I will have a choice in my career." Hopefully Byron would get the message that she wasn't best pleased her their arrangement, but also that she would be at least making an attempt, even if it was only to save her own neck, not that he should know her reasonings.

byron waited patiently until bethany took a seat before he sat down himself. it was polite after all. her heel broke, he saw, and he listened to her words with a slightly amused smile. at least she would always look good. "i bet it took years. please, allow me to repair them"
he offered, drawing his wand delicately out of his pocket. he knew he shouldn't keep it there, it wasn't the ideal place and you never knew what you could end up missing if one little spell set off in your pocket. it was dangerous, but he was always careful. he'd always been told off in school as his habit was to keep it in his back pocket. he was warned many times that he would unfortunately loose a chunk of himself if he wasn't careful, but still, here he was, completely whole and meeting his fiancee again. he never thought that he would be here, marrying a former student, but his parents had half organised the match, and he'd seen the triumph in their face as they presented him with the offer, so he couldn't say no. he would have ideally enjoyed choosing someone he wanted to marry,. like everyone else, but he was byron nott, and he wasn't like everyone else. "well, the offer still stands, just incase" byron mentioned, joking slightly. of course he would catch her. he was to protect her from harm as best he could, that was his job, and to provide some new nott children of course, but that wasn't an issue at the moment. he wasn't ready to be a father. although, many sayid that you'd never be ready to be a parent until you were one. he didn't know how true that was, however, and he wasn't about to find out yet. "it seems that you learned a lot about the pupils of hogwarts whilst you were there. indeed, they manage to come up with a bunch of new stuff to keep me occupied. someone pulled out a portable swamp in the middle of my classroom once, cost them a week worth of detentions but i'm sure they would say it was worth it. tried to claim that they transfigured it, but i think that the weasley products are to blaim." he recalled, smiling at the memory. he couldn't lie, it had amused him, but as a teacher he'd had to discipline the student. it was his job. why would it be dangerous? well, the fact was that there was an underground group who were gaining influence and power every day, although as they were on the down low, it seemed she didn't know all too much about it. that surprised byron, he assumed that she'd be aware of her parents involvement. the dalton adults had done well to keep it from their children, then. interesting. or maybe she was just playing dumb and didn't know his involvement. doubly interesting. he'd have to find out. he was involved, however, and his teaching position was probably only 'his' because of the headmaster, although byron was smart enough to let on that he knew jonothan's involvement in it all. it was critical that hogwarts was theirs, and jonothan was the core of that plan, and the teachers that were also nex domino were just there for back up. "yes, but there will be incidents involving dangerous magic, i assume though that you'd know that and so you are reckless" he answered, as she'd belittled the danger. an incident was still an incident, no matter how big or small it was. "and you will do well to remember who you are talking to. I will not have anyone speak to me like that, be it a student, teacher, headmaster, or my fiancee. you will show me respect, and when you do, i will return the favour. I do not expect to have to treat you like a misbehaving student that i deal so often with at hogwarts." he voiced his concernes, astounded by her snappy tone and little outburst. she clearly wasn't too happy about the marriage. regardless of her thoughts on their pairing, he demanded that he be treated like the adult that he was, and he was not about to let her become a spoiled little brat who couldn't have her way. she was a grown woman, working for the ministry, and he couldn't believe her actions. that one little sentance had changed his view on her. he was still marrying her, there was no way that they wouldn't stand at the alter together, but she would have to grow up and learn that she couldn't always get her way. he was supposed to be there to keep her safe and make sure she had a nice enough life, but if she wasn't going to accept it and let him do so without any arguments, then that would be a difficult task. "i would also like you to know that i am aware that miss jaslene malfoy has a name. i just was not aware of your relationship and if you didn't like her i didn't want to anger you" he explained, rolling his eyes at her bone picking. "i don't expect you to forsake your career for me. i understand that, like your mother, you like to be independant. and besides, i wouldn't expect to have to give up my career for you, so why should it be the other way around?" he asked, making her aware of his belief that women and men are equal. priscilla dalton was a powerful woman in her own right, and she didn't need her husband to gain that power, and he expected nothing less of bethany. "Actually I'll do it later by my own wand, or else take it to Dervish and Banges tomorrow morning." Bethany wasn't the type of girl that needed a man to do everything for her. She was more than capable of doing what she needed to do by herself, and if she didn't then she would either make do without or get a professional to help her. Or start throwing things across the room in a tantrum.
"It doesn't take a genius when there are few pupils that behave during a cover lesson in the same manner as during a normal lesson." Bethany hadn't been among those few, and although she hadn't tried to make life hell for the substitute, she would sit wherever she liked and do as much work as she could be bothered to do. Observations were quickly made at Hogwarts and Hermione's absence for the majority of her time at the school didn't particularly make matters better.
"Reckless! I beg your pardon, I am fully aware of the possible risks but I'm confident in my ability to keep myself from harm." Beth was beginning to like this man less and less with each sentence that he spoke, he clearly made no attempt to consider what he was saying before he actually did so, a skill that had taken Bethany a while to master but she had done so all the same. Arrogance didn't quite cover it.
"I am completely aware of who I am talking to and I'll pay more respect to a Muggle if you don't remind yourself of where you are and who's presence you are in!" Once her displeasure was made it was difficult for anyone to calm her until she made the decision to be calm, let alone convince her to give them a second chance. "You are not the boss of this relationship and the sooner you understand that the easier it will become."
She had half a mind to storm out of the room at that precise moment but she would not be forced to leave a room in her own home because of an inconsiderate prat that thought far too highly of himself. Any thoughts of even possibly waiting to see if things would work out between them were out the window. First impressions were everything and if they were anything to go by she would rather marry a sheep.

as he thought. she seemed stubborn and it didn't seem like she'd accept his help, but he wanted to offer, it was what a gentleman would do. besides, a flick of the wand and a quick mention of reparo and it would be sorted, it wouldn't take a second, especially for someone as skilled as him. reparo was an easy spell and any first year should have mastered it within moments, although you had to be careful that you didn't end up fixing it wrong. not to mention that the object in question couldn't have been destroyed by dark magic, or it wouldn't work, most likely. although it wasn't as though dark magic would be directed at bethany's shoe, unless some dark witch was extremely jealous and chose to destroy it rather than let bethany have that exact pair of shoes. both were highly unlikely though. "as you wish, though i thought it was polite for me to offer and i wouldn't have minded at all."
he replied easily, smiling over at her. he didn't expect her to accept the offer, it wouldn't be like her at all. "yes, unfortunately that is the case. i didn't think that there would be some students misbehaving, especially at their age. you would think that their parents disciplined them enough to stop things like that happening." he said, shaking his head slightly. any child of his would be well behaved and take care of the people and the things around them, just like he had. he'd shown every single person respect, until they didn't deserve that respect. he liked to think that everyone was civilised enough to sit through a few hours of a lesson, but it seemed that parents hadn't stopped their children from acting like they were in a zoo instead of a classroom. he was sick of all the paper aeroplanes and animals that were floating around the classroom. it wasn't the ministry, these weren't inter office memos, they were just stupid little messages and drawings that were of no real importance. it was sad really that people acted as though they were just there to pass the time. children were at hogwarts to learn magic, and the school had some of the best teachers around, although they felt ignored by the pupils a lot of the time. "i just don't want to see you hurt, that's all. i know that there are some people out there who will hurt anyone who tries to stop them and i don't want you to be on the wrong end of the wand" he replied, holding his hands up slightly as in surrender. he didn't want to argue with her, it wasn't something he was planning to do with his fiancée at their first official meeting as a couple. "excuse me! i am shocked that you are behaving in such a manner, you're acting like a spoiled child who has been denied the toy that she wants" he said, appalled by her reaction to him. he was only trying to remind her of who she was and how he expected someone of that high a standard to act, and she jumped down his throat and started throwing her toys out of the pram. "i would like to remind you miss dalton that neither are you. i am sure that if you were in charge, there would be no relationship, so stop kidding yourself and get over it. we are getting married, there's no way out of it and you will do well to accept it, move on, and stay calm, because arguing with me will not convince me to call the wedding off, if that's what you're thinking" he replied coldly, knowing that she needed to understand that he was staying, whether she liked it or not, and she had no choice in the matter. "My mother obviously didn't inform you that I care little for being polite, but I assume that's probably been made quite clear to you already by others." Others here meaning every single person that knew her, including Beth herself. There was a significant difference between being polite and showing respect and it was the latter in which she took interest. Bethany Dalton was the type of girl that imposed a rule on everyone on the globe apart from herself. She wanted everyone to respect her without exception but she saw no reason for her to respect everyone she met. If she felt they deserved it, then they'd get it, otherwise they'd just have to make do without.
"You would think that parents would consult their children before making life-changing decisions for them." Beth had simply been told that a husband would be found for her and she would marry them at some point after her eighteenth birthday. "You would think that parents would care about what their children wanted and not what they wanted for them." Beth was being forced to marry a man she had only ever met on a few occasions as a student in his classroom. "You would think that parents would give a damn about how their children felt instead of turning a blind eye and carrying on as if everything is alright." Beth hoped her mother was listening at the door. She hoped she would realise what she had done and burst in to tell her she didn't have to go through with it. Hope never seemed to have worked for Beth before, why would that change now?
"Oh, I wonder why that is? Because I have!" She wouldn't describe Chris as a toy, but the metaphor worked incredibly well for the situation. Byron was the shiny new toy that everyone her age wanted and Chris was the not-so-shiny toy that she wanted for what it was and not to show of to her friends. "How dare you tell me to stay calm!" Beth yelled, standing up and grabbing her shoe and hell from the table. It may have looked as if she were about to beat him about the head with it, a very tempting prospect, but he had his wand. Despite being a witch herself, that scared her somewhat. Byron was physically stronger than her as it was and without her wand she stood no chance against him. "Who said anything about convincing you?" she spat, verbally rather than physically, before storming out of the room in her temper.
