Cloak and dagger
Cape and mask Jonathan had heard so much about Hermione Malfoy, from students and the staff, he overheard them talk all the time about how better she was then him, the competitive side of him had always been rather overpowering but it wasnt untill one student mentioned a Christmas ball Hermione had thrown that it clicked inside his head, he was going to organise a ball for the students, a masquerade ball, to show that maybe he wasnt that bad of a guy, fool the kids into liking him but he also wanted to show those that went against him that it was better to be on his side.
He stood in the great hall looking around, he was pleased with what he and a lot of the house elves that worked in the kitchens had done to the place, there was smoke lining the floor, the ceiling or should that be sky of the great hall was dark with bright twinkling stars. The middle of the room was empty so the students could dance, there were tables around the dance floor where the not so active students could sit and talk and then along the walls where the tables used at the feast's which had all kinds of treats. He'd gone all out, he'd tried to take a picture of one of the masquerade balls of old and almost bring it to life, it was classy with that slight hint of naughtiness that Jon liked to think described him rather well. The naughtiness in this case being the black silk banners along the wall, the rather bad for you food and of course the dancing, sure they'd probably have a few slow songs but he knew a the night went on the songs would get younger and there would be some dancing and grinding and god knows what else he'd left that to someone else to do, and even though there didnt seem to be any light's around the outside of the room seemed dimly lit compared to the dance floor.
"I think i did well" he said with a nod putting up one last thing, a poster, stating that the Stygian votaries have equal rights to prefects. He'd done this so he could stomp out trouble makers as well as those who dared ruin his evening, he wasnt sure how long it was going to last, he'd decided tonight would be the start and he'd see how it goes and make a final decision tomorrow. Looking around to make sure nobody was watching he pulled out a flask and added a bit of rum to the punch, not enough to change the taste but enough to lighten the evening a little. "there, now it's going to be a party" he mumbled to himself with a smirk. Putting his flask away he walked to a table in the corner of the room and took a seat.
He waved his wand and music filled the air, it seemed to be coming from nowhere but it was louder the closer you got to the dance floor. He waved his wand a second time and the door of the great hall opened. "Let's get this party started" he said to himself as the first few of the students began walking in. as i'm leaving, a change comes on my eyes THESE STREETS PERSUADING ME I THROW MY HEART OUT ON THE STONES, AND I'M ALMOST GONE.• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Scarlett twirled around, watching her dress go out around her a little, and she couldn't help but give off a little excited giggle. She wasn't usually one for such girly reactions, but she couldn't help being excited, because it was new years eve. A new year, another new start, and she was already plotting her new years resolution. She was going to go with the usual, boring, 'keep my room tidy' kind of thing, but this year, she wanted to be a little different, in almost everything. After all, she was very different, so why shouldn't her resolution reflect this? She was thinking that it would be to never regret anything that made her smile. She always did that, did something on the spur of a moment, but after, when she was alone, she'd regret saying that, or buying this, or kissing that boy. It was always like that, and so this next year was going to be different. Scar added her earrings for good measure, before putting her mask over her eyes, and giving herself one last check over in the mirror. She was hardly ever this pedantic. She'd check herself once, and that was it, but this would be the third time she was making sure she looked fine.
Scarlett headed out of the dormitory and through the common room until she was in the hall. As she passed by other students, she would occasionally pause and smile, and tell them how pretty they looked. The girls of Hogwarts had gone all out this year, and so had the boys, in fact. She didn’t think she’d ever seen anyone dressed up this well. It seemed that a lot of effort went into each outfit. Stopping by the doors to the great hall, she smoothed down her dress, before following a few other students into the hall. She wondered idly if she’d be stared at because she was without a date, but then she realised that she spent a considerable amount of her time being stared at anyway, because most of her peers considered her quite the oddity. She was a seer, for one, and that gave many people the creeps. Secondly, she just adopted to spending a lot of her time alone, because she’d be there doing her homework before it needed to be handed in, and everyone would have already done theirs already. Well, not everyone, but you get the idea.
Scarlett moved over to the punch bowl and poured herself a glass of the punch. Her eyes wandered over the decorations, before they fixed on the skies. So beautiful. On the night that she died, she hoped the stars shone as brightly as that. Wouldn’t it be so perfect, to be under the stars, slipping away, peaceful? That was how she wanted to die. She’d thought of it only in that moment, and she knew it was a morbid thought, but that was how she was. She took a sip of her punch and noticed a slight edge to it, as the liquid glided down her throat. Her eyes moved to the black banners on the wall, and she thought slightly that it reminded her of funerals. Another morbid thought. Please, someone save her mood, before she had to leave early! Weaving into the middle of the students that has congregated already on the dance floor, Scarlett moved lightly and softly, swaying side to side by herself, and almost to her own tune. Yeah. That was why people thought she was an oddity.

But if you let her see that fancy footwork
Show her that your not that shy Arthur didnt have a date to the ball, he didnt know how to ask someone let alone who to ask so he had decided to just go alone, he had a mask on anyway, nobody would recognise him. That thought lingered for a moment, nobody would recognise him, he suddenly felt more confident then he had in a long time, this way if he messed anything up he could just make sure he wasnt around that person when it was time to take the masks off. He strolled past people with a new found confidence, standing tall instead of how he would usually walk trying to blend in. He even noticed one girl check him out as he walked past, he tried hard not to blush and made his way into the hall.
It was rather beautiful in there, he liked it at least, it was classy and it felt comfortable. He headed over to the punch bowl and waited in a rather short que, he then got his glass of punch and took a sip. I wonder if there's a Dalton already in here... i hope i dont get flirted with if they dont recognise me he thought, that would be embarrassing, he'd have to make sure to listen to the voices of the people he spoke to in case he recognised one, he knew most people wouldnt recognise his voice as he hadn't spoke to many people he tended to keep to himself.
Taking a sip of his punch he smiled to himself and headed to a table, he wasnt ready to dance, he was confident but not that confident yet, and it wasnt like he didnt know how to dance, he'd had lessons. Arthur then looked at the poster on the wall, that gave him a sense of power, sure he was only a stygian votarie so he could keep an eye on the headmaster as he seemed to be friends with his parents, which was never a good sign. Let her see that fancy footwork Show her your that type of guy Wearing: Outfit Comment: here we go.. Lyrics: Fancy footwork - Chromeo Credit: Me

THIS was probably the first time that Katherine Elizabeth Fox had attended a public event. Coming from a Muggle family with little in terms of finances compared to the likes of the Malfoys and the Daltons. Even though she had only been introduced to the wizarding world six years ago, Kate had quickly learned who to tread carefully around and was intelligent enough to do so. Even at her Muggle primary school there had been those with more money than they needed to get through life and thought themselves better than everyone else. Rather than challenging their supposed authority, she preferred to keep to herself and avoid trouble. It was easier that way.
TUGGING gently at the sides of her dress, Katherine stood before the mirror in her Hufflepuff dormitory, looking better than she ever had before. A thin necklace hung around her neck and the best pair of shoes she had ever owned kept her feet from touching the cold floor. Technically she owned them, but they would be returned to the shop from which she had purchased them the following day. Seeing no need for her to take her wand, she stowed it away in the bottom of her trunk and hoped she could trust her dorm mates to leave her belongings alone. Picking up the mask from her bed, she half wished she'd bought one that would stay on her face. Her arm would no doubt ache from holding it in place but she could always come back to the common room halfway through and make some quick amendments. She was glad for the short distance between the basement and the Great Hall.
STEPPING into the hall, she absorbed her surroundings. Professor Styx had certainly surprised her, it was much more like one of the old celebrations than she had been expecting. She'd even have gone as far to say that it looked quite nice, except for the fact that she was intent on having him sacked as the Headmaster. That was the aim of Malfoy's Army after all, or at the very least to drive him mad. She didn't recognise anyone and she hoped no-one would recognise her, that was the purpose of masquerades wasn't it? Kate hoped she would find someone though; she'd come without a date, seeing as she wouldn't have been able to find someone that would come with her and even more unable to pluck up the courage to ask them to do so. A friend would be fine, just someone to have a good time with, but she couldn't help but hope to find the perfect person when the masks came off at the start of the new year.
This post was written by Vicky as Sarah Lestrange. The lyrics are from Time of my Life by New Directions and the images are of Emma Watson. The post was written for everyone and is 448 words long. Kate is wearing this outfit and I'd just like to add that I can't wait for Glee to come back on.

Oh my
Feels just like i dont try James had decided to go to one of these events for once, he'd not been to many before, in fact he'd only been to one but had left early as it just wasnt his scene. Then the headteacher changed, he was sure that Jon had more of a naughty side then Hermione so maybe this wouldnt be that bad. Then there was the entire mask thing that appealed to him, nobody would know who he was so he could find someone and work some charm and create an entire new personality, he wasnt sure, he knew he'd make it up as he went along.
He put on his suit and mask and stood in front of a mirror in his dorm, he then noticed one huge flaw in his plan. "PEOPLE CAN SEE MY HAIR!" he moaned then began effing and jeffing untill one of the people in the dorm who wasnt going mentioned something about a zorro costume. Moments later James was walking towards the grand hall, he looked better then he had ever before, and he felt so good. He walked into the hall demanding attention with just his walk, he felt like he owned the room and that he was invincible, he had one simple goal, find a girl, charm her and then possibly get a kiss on midnight when the masks come off.
He just needed to start conversation, but how was he going to do that, then his eyes lit up slightly as he noticed the punch bowl. He got himself two drinks and then surveyed the room, he needed to find someone who had not had a drink and didnt look like they were dancing or going to dance, he noticed one girl just taking in the room, he hadn't even noticed the difference but was he supposed to, what did the decorations matter to him. He walked towards the girl in red and cleared his throat to try and smooth over his voice in case it was someone who would recognise his normal rough one. "Hey there, you look like you could use a drink" he said lifting one of the cups then taking a sip of the other one. That's it, I'm bloody prince charming. KATE looked around in the hope that she would recognise somebody from the way they walked or their voice. Unfortunately everyone seemed to be sitting down or dancing and nobody was coming close enough to her for her to hear her voice. It wasn't like she was being avoided or anything, but then not many people would know what to say to some random girl in a mask standing in the middle of everything. Except for one person that is, who offered her a drink. She turned around to look at him and recognised him quickly. There was something different though... what was it? The hat! "Sorry, I can't drink anything tonight. What made you change your costume?"
THAT was one of the benefits of being a seer; you could see when things were going to go pear shaped and, as a sensible young woman that stayed well away from alcohol, she knew that she would drink something that night that would tip her a little too far. That was why she had drunk enough water before coming to the ball so that she wouldn't be thirsty but not too much that she would wet herself. Then again, that decision might have caused her to end up sitting in a pool of her own vomit in the courtyard. It wasn't something she would particularly enjoy doing, that was for sure, and it was one of the many reasons that she refused to drink alcohol. Sure, it was just punch, but knowing some of the people at Hogwarts, it had probably been spiked with alcohol of some form, or even drugs. How would they get it into the castle? Kate didn't know and she didn't really want to either.

Feels just like i dont try The girl that stood in front of him, he couldnt describe without using inappropriate language, but that was just James, other people would probably have said she looked beautiful or something. He didnt recognise her though, he was unsure if that was a good thing or not, then she spoke, he tried hard to recognise the voice, but he just couldnt get it, he was sure he'd heard it before though but he just wasnt sure where he had. "It's just punch.. it's way too early in the evening for it to have been spiked yet" he said or at least he thought, people spiking the punch usually happens when lots of people were around so the crowd blocked the teachers view.
"Hold on, what do you mean what made me change my costume?" he asked curiously, did she think he was someone else she had seen already or had she seen him earlier before the ball, before he got ready, he wasnt exactly sure what she was on about but he didnt like the thought that she might know him yet he didnt know her. Come on she has to be someone you've spoken to, from first year to now, and you havent slept with or done anything inappropriate too or she'd have slapped you by now he thought, he decided he'd just work it out as she was speaking and hopefully it would all go smoothly. But if you let her see that fancy footwork
Show her that your not that shy Arthur stood up from where he sat he had to grow some balls sometime in his life. Now wasnt the time so he sat back down and downed the punch, he liked the taste. Standing back up again he walked over to the punch bowl and got himself another cup full, downed it then got another then walked back to where he was sitting, he sat back down and took a sip of the punch. He was feeling much more confident now for some reason, he stood up. Paused for a while just standing by his chair then stepped away from it. Come on Arthur, you're a man, be one he thought watching the dance floor, everyone seemed to be doing the same dance, except one girl who was doing her own little thing, he decided it was probably best to dance by her because hopefully people would be too busy looking at her to notice him.
He walked over to the dance floor and realised he didnt know how to dance to this kind of music, it wasnt a waltz or anything like that, he gulped and began to just move with the music, nobody was staring so that was rather good. He was actually rather enjoying himself. untill he realised he was dancing alone and everyone else seemed to be in a couple, he moved slightly closer to the girl who also seemed to be dancing alone so they appeared to be dancing together. Then he realised they weren't exactly dancing like everyone else so they must have stood out a little bit. Fuck them he thought, he swore, well he thought a swear word, Arthur never swore. as i'm leaving, a change comes on my eyes THESE STREETS PERSUADING ME I THROW MY HEART OUT ON THE STONES, AND I'M ALMOST GONE.• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Scarlett wasn't the type of girl to do what everyone else was. She much preferred making her own path. At least then she stood out, and she wasn't just another girl. Unfortunately it didn't really help her with anything, because the guys were too busy salivating all over the girls who wore a belt as a skirt. Scarlett wondered if they had no shame, after all, there was that whole less is more thing, though she doubted that worked on clothes. The more you left to the imagination, the better. Anyway, she just usually dressed in whatever she wanted to, making sure she was comfortable and happy with what she was in. She found that if she was wearing something that she felt like herself in then she felt more confident in herself, and that was always good. She liked being comfortable in herself, it helped her out when people were staring at her like she'd grown three heads all of a sudden. Some of the reactions she got sometimes was interesting though, especially when she zoned out. Most people just knew she was good at Divination, but they didn't realise that it was a gift. She was a seer. She'd always had good instincts, and then the older she got, the more she saw, but she was still no good at controlling it. She didn't even know if it was possible.
There had been a few guys that had seen past all of the oddness, but it just never seemed to work out. She'd had a few boyfriends in the past, but none that had lasted longer than a few months, and she didn't get why. She always thought it was her, like she'd done something wrong or whatever. And then that idiot had asked her out and stood her up, and she'd met David and spent the night with him. That was pretty much a bad idea and she did regret it, but there we go. She could see other people's future, not change the past. She wished she'd known in hindsight that the guy wouldn't turn up, because then she wouldn't have gone, but she couldn't control it and she never saw her own future either, so unless she caught a glimpse of his, she had no way to know. Scarlett cast her eyes around quickly and saw a guy walking toward her. She smiled cheerfully, and noticed that he was dancing something different either. Her cheeks flushed because it was quite warm in the hall. When he moved closer, Scarlett looked up and grinned at the boy. She moved close so she could whisper in his ear, he had no other way to hear unless she yelled.
"Hi! how're you? I almost told you my name then, that was lucky, wasn't it!"
she said with a smile, remembering in time to catch herself, that the masks came off at midnight, and until then they were to remain anonymous. The music was quite loud, or maybe that was just her. She took another sip of her drink and carried on swaying randomly to the music. "Does the punch taste a bit funny to you?" she asked, wondering if she was just imagining that slight kick to it. It was barely there, she could barely notice, but there was something. Maybe someone had spiked the drink. Although, it did seem a bit early for that, didn't it? Well, someone wanted to get the party going. She was willing to bet that there was some student out there that had the balls to do it. Pardon the expression. Scarlett never usually had such a potty mouth, but there were just some sayings that you couldn't put better any other way. The guts to spike the drink didn't sound so right. But if you let her see that fancy footwork
Show her that your not that shy Arthur looked at the girl he was dancing near.. well was he dancing near her, or with her, he wasnt exactly sure but he noticed her cheeks go slightly red, weather it was because she was blushing or because it was warm he wasnt sure. Maybe she wasnt even blushing, it could have just been the lighting, he wasnt sure and he wasnt even sure if he cared which was unusual as usually he would start blushing just because she was... or could be. Arthur wasnt sure what to do when she moved closer to him a part of him anted to move backwards but he stayed where he was and felt kind of foolish when she only came this close to whisper in his ear. well what else was she going to do? he thought to himself feeling idiotic.
"Yeah, we dont want to reveal our secret identities just yet" he whispered back in one of her ears. Arthur then shrugged at the next thing she said, to be honest he'd never tried punch before so he wasnt sure what it was supposed to taste like, but he liked the taste it was fruity. "So.. are we dancing together?" he asked curiously, he wasnt sure if he had been or they had just been having a conversation whilst dancing alone, to be fair though they were hardly doing the same dance, they were doing their own little things. Let her see that fancy footwork Show her your that type of guy Wearing: Outfit Comment: that's some pretty darn good dancing then and sorry its not that big of a post :l Lyrics: Fancy footwork - Chromeo Credit: Me

as i'm leaving, a change comes on my eyes THESE STREETS PERSUADING ME I THROW MY HEART OUT ON THE STONES, AND I'M ALMOST GONE.• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Scarlett wasn't the best dancer ever, and she hardly ever did the dance that everyone else was doing. Grinding. That was another thing that she tended to avoid, especially because that meant getting extremely close to the person that you were dancing with, and Scarlett liked space. She liked being able to move around and everything, because space and air and everything was something that Scarlett enjoyed. She was a very outdoorsy person, and she loved going for walks around Hogwarts grounds, and if she was feeling daring enough, in the forest. She especially loved it in the autumn or winter time. When the air was cold, and the fallen leaves were all crunchy when you stepped on them. That was always lovely, a nice time of year where it wasn't too warm to walk far, and if you put on a decent jacket then you could have a nice, perfectly lovely walk. Scarlett loved that, although sometimes the cold air could hurt your throat, and that could get annoying, but in the forest it was less likely, because it was harder to feel the wind through all the trees. She loved it there, and the possibility of seeing some new animals was always lovely.
Scarlett smiled and chuckled slightly at what he said. "Yes, I mean, I should at least wait till midnight to reveal who I am. After all, Batman has to have a big grand reveal" she joked with a smile. She wondered how he'd react to that comment. She liked Batman, and yes, she was aware of the fact that Batman was, in fact, a man, but that didn't matter. She was only joking. And besides, she'd almost bought the Batman hoody in one of the muggle stores, so she had a decent right to that title. Ok, she didn't but what did that matter? She was only joking anyway. She was glad that she hadn't told him her name yet, it would have ruined the surprise. She did consider trying to guess who he was, but if she was right then that would ruin the surprise too, kind of. She took another sip of her drunk and felt it go to her head. What was in this thing? "Come to think of it, I probably shouldn't mention that. Shh, don't tell anyone"
she joked, grinning randomly. This punch was very fruity, she was trying to work out the other flavour, the thing that gave it a kick. Surely not. No alcohol. Not this early at least! Scarlett carried on dancing, thinking it through. "I don't know. I mean, I suppose we are. If you want to be. That sounded quite complicated. In short, yeah, sure" she whispered back with a warm smile. Whoever he was, he seemed nice enough. Not stalkerish or anything. Not that anyone really would want to stalk her. She wasn't the most stalkable person. Scarlett didn't do much in the way of guys or anything anyway, thanks to having a tendency to be used for sex. It wasn't particularly nice and she was trying to not go for the evil guys. In short, taking a break from anything man related sounded a good idea. But then she felt awful lonely. And she was dancing with a guy. Wasn't exactly what you'd call taking a break from anything guy related. Scarlett stepped just a little more forward to let a couple move behind her through the crowd, and then resumed her place, shaking her head slightly. Where were people's manners? "anyway, happy new years eve! how're you enjoying the party so far?" she asked, making conversation. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -* maybe you should tie me up , - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Annie was excited for the ball, sure. Ok, so she wished that someone else would be there but she knew that wasn't possible and it was he who was missing out anyway, because if she did say so herself, she looked pretty damned amazing in her outfit, so he'd missed the chance to see her looking so epic. Shame, really, because she liked him seeing her look good. Annie zipped up the dress that she'd chosen for the masquerade, and smiled. She'd had this dress for a few months now, because her mother and father were planning on renewing their vows, in some nice ceremony, and Annie had decided that if she was going to be a bridesmaid she may as well chose a lovely dress. As it so happened, Annie had gotten word of the ball, and so had convinced them to buy her this dress for it, and when they did, she had packed it nicely away, ready to be worn. It was absolutely amazing and she adored it, and she wished that she had more chances to wear it. Today, she'd done her hair up in some sort of twirl thing, resulting in it being clipped back, all pretty and stuff, with the ends splaying out a little everywhere they could. The few final touches she had to add were the necklace, her shoes, and of course, her mask. She doubted anyone wouldn't know who she was if they looked at her hair though, as it wasn't the most in-conspicuous hair ever.
Giving herself a final check over in the mirror, she slicked on some lip-gloss and headed out of her dorm, drawing a few gasps from the girls that were still there, and hadn't gone yet. They were cutting it fine. A smug smile crossed Annie's face and she walked past them, head held high. She was glad that she'd waited until she was out of their sight and through the portrait before she almost tripped and fell. Well, not everyone could be perfect, and Annie was far from graceful at the best of times. She was pretty damn graceful on a broom, but on her feet, not so much. She took the steps carefully, practically clinging to the banister just in case. When she finally made it to the entrance hall she sucked in a breath and walked through the doors, noting a few heads turning her way, although she was pretty late so their curiosity probably got the better of them. Annie spotted the drinks table and made a beeline for it, wanting to find her footing before even attempting to dance. She walked across as gracefully as she could manage under the circumstances, (those being her heels) and closed her hand around a cup, immediately spooning some of the punch into it. She wondered if anyone would notice if she slipped away to summon some alcohol, and spiked the drink, but she dismissed the thought and instead set her eyes so that they were gazing around the room.
It was then that her eyes caught the poster, and this time, curiosity got the better of her, so she headed over, drink in hand, and took a sip as she walked. Her mother had always told her not to drink and walk, but Annie never understood why. It was fine, she could multitask, and stuff. If she could chew chewing gum and walk, then she could drink and walk. When she reached the poster, her eyes took in the words and she cursed outwardly, causing a few looks from anyone close to her. "Son of a bitch." she cursed again under her breath, and what followed was a trail of profanities that her mother wouldn't be proud of. It was a good job her mother wasn't here, or they'd be having words. "I don't bloody believe it. And he thinks he can get away with it, stupid no good idiotic-"
she was interrupted mid sentence by someone else approaching, and Annie turned on her heel, anger etched on her face. She was not impressed. She knew that the Stygian Votaries were Styx' right hand.. er, students, but she didn't think that he'd go about letting them do whatever the hell they wanted. Annie, a proud member of Malfoy's army, would not be doing anything that those stupid hyped up suck ups said. No. No way. Not her.
