Thomas eyed the door, somewhat impatiently, as he was waiting for his class. Okay, so it was a little early for them to be filing in, but Thomas had a free last, and he’d planned what should be a fun practical lesson, and he couldn’t wait to get the ball rolling on it! He’d planned a homework too, but it was quite a fun one, as far as homework goes. At least it wasn’t a hugemungous essay that would take up about six ink pots to write! Thomas would have to give a few essays out, but he was going to try and make them few, and have homework’s in between that were interesting. The homework for today was to go away and find an interesting and funny potion that used lots of random ingredients, and that you’d love to use once, and then write a paragraph or two on why you chose it, what it does, and what you’d do with it to make it something to remember. He thought that was a pretty good homework, and he was actually going to go and do it himself too, so he can participate in the sharing and make the students feel that it’s not all them putting in the effort. He liked to make the atmosphere in class a nice one, and Tom was sure that treating the students with respect, and making them feel appreciated was the way to go. But he could also be strict and yell if he needed too, as he was especially good at discipline, although he’d rather not have to use it.
There had been cases in the past where raising his voice, or even hinting at emotional blackmail needed to be used. For instance, the whole debacle with Kaleb Garcia and that wretched and sorry excuse for a professor. Tom didn’t even want to think his name because he hated what he did so much. But Thomas got revenge for the boy when he made sure that the horrid teacher had seen what the boy had been reduced to; a broken and weeping boy, who couldn’t lift his head for shame of trusting such a man as that lowlife scum. But after all that the professor did to Kaleb, Thomas knew that he had to see what he did to the boy, so he could possibly display some humanity and regret his actions. But Thomas would only get angry and upset because he’d been thinking about that, and he wasn’t going to do so before class. He heard the bell fill his ears and bring him back to the present, and his potions classroom. The place was a little dark, but Thomas had filled the room with a huge amount of candles to light the room a bit better. As soon as the fires got lit to warm the cauldron, the room would light up even more. That was good as Thomas liked the light, as it made him fell happier and lighter and it improved his mood greatly.
Thomas dragged a piece of chalk on the blackboard, forming a sentence, and then another, describing the task for the day. His class was to be sixth years, so he’d prepared a potion that Thomas found very amazing, as it knocked the user out and made it look like they were dead. It sounded similar to the potion that Juliet was meant to use in the play by the great Shakespeare, and that was why Thomas was so fond of it, as it sounded like a part of one of the greatest romances in the history of English literature, and so a part of history itself. Thomas liked that, the idea of being part of history, and making your mark so that you were very well remembered. Thomas wanted to do something so big that he got remembered, but he’d be happy making little changes in people’s lives to, which was what he was doing when he was teaching. He was going to introduce the class into the task and tell them about the homework in the end, as a sort of conclusion to the lesson.
