SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be •JUST AS MESSED UP AS ME “Oh yes, so much better than any spell I have to admit.” She chuckled; it was a Christmas she certainly would not forget in a hurry. Now she was a Professor and she had to try and remember what she did the night before. Adrianna remembered the first Christmas she spent with her parents after she came back from Salem, it had been a very grand affair with the whole family around, and it had actually been relaxing. “Oh pfft, you don’t look old, I know that much Thomas.” Adrianna grinned playfully. Oh hold on a minute, had she just been flirting, she never flirted that often. Shaking her head for a moment, she looked around the room and the size of it. “When I get grey hairs, I will be starting to use glamour.” She spoke, she would grow old graceful, just like her mother was, but her mother did not even look her age, she looked so much younger than she truly was. It was lucky for some. Adrianna listened to Thomas’ story about how he crashed his wife Penny’s wedding. This made her smile, it was romantic and Adrianna was a true romantic at heart. She had always loved a good story. “That sounds so romantic.” She smiled as she spoke. “I had a week worth of lectures off my folks, I think it was my mother being disappointed that she would not get another grandchild from me when she expected. She knows I want a career first before I settle down and have a family.” Adrianna spoke once more in response. It was interesting anytime she talked with her parents, they would ask her if she had met anyone yet, and she would give them the same answer and she normally would.
Adrianna shook her head. “I think I can trust our students to be easy on you. You never know you might be able to teach them a thing or two.” She found herself smiling once again. “Well then, we should organise something when we are free from the burdens we call students.” Adrianna was in dire need of a good party night out in muggle London, it had been such a long time since she had enjoyed the party scene, though even when she was younger, she did not party every week like some of her old class mates. “Catch you later Theo. Have fun in classes.” She smiled as she saw the younger man leaving the room, he certainly was a character, but that was a very good thing in her books. Adrianna found herself blushing just a little at Thomas’ reply to what Theodore had said with his departing words. She had to admit, there was something about Thomas that she could relate to. She was not bored talking to him, that most certainly be a plush. Adrianna gave a large, bold smile when he offered for her to join him for a walk around the lake. Truthfully, he could be a really amazing friend to her. There was just something about him she liked. “I would love to join you for a walk.” Standing up from the chair, she took the arm he offered, linking her own with his. It was nice to know that there were still some gentlemen in the world. “If you don’t mind me asking Thomas, what happened to your wife, I mean I know some of what happened and no-one should go through it, but I guess I am just wanting to know?” Adrianna asked, she knew she was out of order asking, but she truly wanted to know. There was certainly something about Thomas she could connect with, they seemed to have a lot in common, she truly believed that they could be really good friends, given the time and if they talked often, just like there were now.

"Yes indeed! As spells have a tendency to mess up, and you could end up forgetting everything!"
He said with a chuckle, remembering the story of Ron Weasley and the incident with a certain proffessor lockheart, who had lost his mind because of an obliviate spell gone wrong. It was his fault, in the end, as he should have realised that the wand was slightly broken! Was that slight hint of flirtation in her voice there? Thomas hadn't really flirted with anyone in so long, that he was a little rusty! "Why thank you! I suppose that I should trust such a smart woman's opinion as yours" He said with a smile, wondering if that comment was flirtatious too. Maybe he'd have to ask some advice from someone to get him back in on the dating game. Maybe he'd ask Theo or something, he seemed nice enough. "Well I doubt you'd need to use that for awhile" Thomas said with a grin. He wanted to grow old gracefully, and although age didn't really bother him, at the same time he wasn't too keen to get grey hairs as he liked his hair colour. He'd have to look into any magic that he could use to stop him from losing his hair colour for a while longer, as he liked his blonde hair, it suited him well! He smiled sweetly when she said that what he'd done was romantic. It was very romantic, and it had lead to her marrying Penny not two weeks later in a small ceremony, because they loved eachother too much to wait. When she mentioned grandchildren, his smile fell a little bit. He'd not been able to have children with Penny, as the cancer had come on too fast, and the treatment for it meant that children wasn't an option, and he wasn't going to let Penny have a child in her fragile state anyway, as it was risking her life even more. "Everything in good time, in my opinion! I would have loved to have a child with Penny, but it seemed that it wasn't something that we could do" He said with a sigh, casting his eyes down for a moment, before pulling his expression into a fun loving smile again, the twinkle returning to his eyes. As long as he thought happy, he felt happy, in Thomas' opinion. "Then I would be glad to help out, whenever I can" He said with an enthusiastic smile. He was happy to help teach the students, and the more teaching, the better, after all, what else was he here for? "Yes we should! There are a few new bars that I would love to go look at, but I'm sure the rest have changed hugely since I last went there" He said with a grin, glad to be getting out of the castle and ending up in London again. he loved London! it was always so busy and filled with people though, and they all seemed to be in a rush. "in the holidays perhaps, they are close enough now to plan!" He suggested, being unable to contain his enthusiasm for the idea. When Teddy left, he saw a slight colour in her cheeks, and wondered if she liked Teddy a little more than she'd let on. "Excellent!" Tom said, grinning when she hooked her arm around his. He started to walk with her through the door, and through the hallways, on his way to the entrance hall, and beyond that, the grounds. Thomas bit his lip for a moment, trying to think of a way to explain without having him cry again. It was hard to think of how she died, although he could talk about her without crying now, and that had been an improvement. "Uh, no, it's okay. She died of cancer, lived longer than the doctors thought she would though. She always said that it was because she wasn't ready to let me go yet. I always smiled at that. For a while after, I felt that I'd never be ready to let her go, but it's getting easier" He said with another small smile that was filled with memories. Thomas knew that he got on well with Adrianna, and would always be able to talk to her, she was just that type of person that he got on well with. He was sure that after awhile, he'd be able to confide in her more about Penny, and find her to be a true friend that he could trust. SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be •JUST AS MESSED UP AS ME Adrianna could not help but blush when he mentioned about trusting a smart woman’s opinion, she really should stop acting like a sixth year student. It was something she did not do anymore. “Oh well I should hope I would not have to use a glamour any time soon, I mean my mother is getting on and has just started to get grey hairs.” She rambled on once more; it seemed nerves had been getting the best of her today. Adrianna had seen his face fall at the slight mention she had given about children, and she mentally kicked her butt, she should be so much more carefully about what she was saying. She simply did not think when she spoke. “Thomas…” She started, thinking how she could phrase what she wanted to say. “Look, I am sorry if what I said brought back painful memories, I mean I wasn’t thinking. Well I don’t think much when I am speaking, but it does not excuse for not taking things into considering, I really am an idiot.” Once more she was rambling on like an idiot. “And now I am rambling like an idiot and won’t stop talking. Sorry” Adrianna muttered sheepishly. It was a trait she had since she had been a child and she simply never grew out of it.
A smile returned to her face as he spoke of planning the trip to London, and the fact it was not too early to start planning the event. “Great! It’s a date.” Mentally she found herself slapping herself. “I mean, its planned we can just fine tune the details and you can invite anyone you like, the more the merry right?!” Oh really now she looked like a fool that needed to sort out her life, really she should think about what she was saying around people, her mouth would get her into trouble one of these days. Sighing to herself, she bit her bottom lip as she tried to calm herself and her thought down. As she linked arms with him and walked out of the staff room, she could not help but thinking it would be nice to get to know hum much better. Friends would be good right? Well at least she hoped it would, you could never have too many friends. Once more colour filled her cheeks, oh she was really being pathetic now, it was these stupid little thoughts and they were most certainly not befitting of a professor. Adrianna listened intently as he began to speak about his late wife and what he had been through. Truthfully she could not imagine going through such a thing, it was something she could never fully comprehend, though it does happen, it had never happened in her own family, and she hoped that such a thing would never happen. It would be hard to think of what she would do.
For a moment she was silent after what he said. Taking in the grounds around her, she then looked up at his face, a sad expression on her face for a moment with a gentle smile. “Sounds like she was a brave and strong woman, its just disheartening that someone like that could be taken from her family in such the cruellest of ways. I am sorry for your loss, even if it is a bit late.” Adrianna had spoken up, a soft smile resting on her lips as they crossed the grounds. “So tell me, what made you want to become a Potions Master and then come and teach our lovely brats, I mean it can’t be the easiest subjects to teach the students.” Adrianna had enjoyed Potions as a student, but her heart had always laid within the subject of Defence against the Dark Arts. It was a subject that was vast, and you could continue to learn about until ones dying day. Adrianna once more took in the surroundings around her, another things she happened to love was nature, in some ways she was often in her elements when she was outside thinking to herself or even with company. “Oh sorry, I seemed to have got lost in my mind again, it cluttered, and anyone could get lost in it.” She grinned a little.

"Well then, I'm sure that you'll age well just like she does"
Thomas said with a smile, hoping that this wasn't something offensive or inappropriate to say, because he'd not exactly had massive experience of talking to women since Penny had died. Panda had been the last person that he'd loved, and he was only now starting to move on, because he'd done so much to be with her, and then she had gotten taken away from him, so suddenly. He didn't think that was fair, as they'd taken ages to finally be together because of a stupid argument, then he'd crashed the wedding to win her back, and after a few years, she had gotten cancer and was dying. He didn't regret crashing the wedding though, it was one of the most romantic things he'd done in his lifetime, and he'd do it again in a heartbeat, because it was worth it for those few years of pure bliss. Now all he had to show for it was memories and a cute little cottage in Stratford with a library and one of those awesome ladders that slid along the bookshelves. (He'd had it installed because they looked like so much fun!) "It's okay, I myself am curious, especially to the stories of the people around me. You see, I believe that although we're born with certain traits, it's the experiences that we have that make us who we are. And to really know someone you need to know what has happened in their lives. And you are most certainly not an idiot, I should be used to be talking about it by now" He murmured the last bit, knowing that some of the students thought it was just plain sad that he was still mourning over Penny, after all it had been years! Thomas smiled at the word date, but he mentally scolded himself, knowing that this was just a saying and it probably meant nothing. The truth of the matter was that Thomas liked Adrianna's company very much, as she was a smart, kind and funny girl, who made sure that there was no awkwardness in the moments that they had shared. She was also very pretty, and he was glad that he'd gotten to spend time with the fast talking, amazing woman who had her arm hooked around his. "Well I do have one friend who owns the Three Broomsticks, I'd ask him, although he may be busy, so you may be stuck with just me! I'll try not to be too much of a talkative pain!" He said with a smile, puzzling slightly over the blush that had crept into her cheeks. The more the merrier indeed, but he was sure that the two of them alone would make a good pair and have a fun night, laughing and chatting, and possibly dancing, if he could manage to get his footwork back in order. He'd taken dancing lessons in the past in a bid to try new things, and he wasn't very bad, as long as he didn't concentrate too much, because then he over thought everything and it all just messed up. If he was relaxed and just smiled, he could let his feet remember the movements that he'd practiced years ago, and he'd manage to dance well enough to not look like an idiot or trip over his own feet, at least! He cast a glance over the grounds, though truthfully he would have been happy just watching Adrianna. Thomas liked watching people. Not like in a stalkerish way, just watching their expressions, how they moved, the way that they smiled. It told him a lot about how people acted, and their personality, although movements couldn't tell him everything, as you did have to know the persons experience to see the true them, although body language gave the first insight into people. He tried not to analyse Adrianna though, because she could get annoyed at him for knowing what she was thinking, or feeling. His mother always got angry when he analysed everything she was doing mentally. He usually got a glossed over look, as if he was staring into space. But he was happy to just watch Adrianna, see the smile and not wonder what's behind it, even though he was curious. He couldn't help it though, he was just a curious person who wanted to know the full range of human emotion, and what they were capable of doing, or even feeling. "Thank you. She was brave, but she'd want me to stop grieving, I think. I've been missing her for so long, it's time to move on, be happy" He said with a shrug, knowing full well that it would be exactly what Panda would have wanted him to do. Her exact words would have probably been something like stop sulking and get back out there! Go fish! of course referring to her favourite metaphore that there was plenty more fish in the sea. She always used to correct it saying that there was pleanty more fish by the sea because of where they met. He always used to laugh at that! "Well it's not, but that's why I like it! I love a challenge, and I wanted to make learning fun. I was always better at potions than any other subject, and it was a mainly practical subject too, so I figured it was a good choice! What about you, what made you want to teach?" He asked, turning himself slightly toward her so he could watch her again. "I know how you feel! You don't know how many times i've spaced out in class, and ten minutes later, some student's tugging on my robe and asking a question, repeatedly because it seems as though I'm ignoring them" He recalled with a laugh, remembering the worried look on that first year's face. SOMETIMES I FIND IT HARD• to believe there's someone else who could be •JUST AS MESSED UP AS ME “That is actually an interesting concept; I could see why that could be true. And you might not be used to talking about it, I mean some people would rather not talk about what has happened in their lives, for some people they don’t talk about it at all.” Of course she knew that some people said that it was better to talk about their problems and what had happened to them, but people coped differently, she tried not to force the matter. If someone wanted to talk then let them, if that was the way they coped. Adrianna’s attention once more zoned out and started to look around her in deep thought. True it could be argued that she was being so called ‘anti-social’ but she was admitting to herself she had a full blown crush on Thomas, and she felt like a fifth year student all over again, not a twenty-nine year old arm. In her mind she was kicking herself, honestly since when did she get crushes, it was just unheard of for people of her age. She was pulled out of her thoughts by something Thomas had spoken. It had taken her moment to take in what he had said. “Oh, I suppose it will have to do then, I just hope you make good company.” Adrianna smirked playfully at him, before laughing just a little.
In all honestly it felt strange to be walking with someone else and just enjoying the quiet company, but it as nice; it was relaxing. A smile could not be taken off her face as they continued their walk around the grounds of Hogwarts. Her mother had always said she was one of the lucky ones, with her so called looks and her charming personality. Adrianna had snorted at this comment, she had a terrible temper and she was the biggest klutz going. There was always a thousands things that went wrong when she was trying to do, often something’s did not work the way she would like them to. But she was given what she was given by the good lord, so she used to it to her advantage when she could. There were so many things she wanted to do, honestly she could not see herself as a Professor for the rest of her life, and she wanted to be able to take apprentices and teach them about Defence against the Dark Arts and help train future Aurors. Maybe this would happen after teaching lost its appeal, but for the time being it was what she wanted to do and she hoped she continue to teach at Hogwarts. After all it was her second home.
A smile emerged upon her face once more, and then she turned her attention back to Thomas. She looked up at him and gave his arm a small squeeze in what she hoped was comfort. It was hard to believe and imagine what this man had gone through. Adrianna did not sat anything but she just listened, there was nothing she could say if she was honest, she could not promise it would be alright, but she could provide an ear to listen to what he was saying. “Well, I guess teaching was in my blood because of my grandfather, he taught at Auror’s and he was fantastic at him job. It’s because I wanted to make a difference and I know my job if I can help a student learn something they never knew before.” Her grandfather had been her idol, he had treated her like his own child, it was where her love for DADA came from. She missed him so much, but he had passed away when she was nineteen, so she had come to terms with her loss. “Oh yes, I have had that a few times, quite amazing that it’s the only time the students get concerned and seem to want to learn.” She grinned. It was quite true, the students would not listen when the teacher was lecturing but as soon as the zoned out, that was it, they wanted to learn. And Adrianna certainly had her moments. Recalling such moments was quite amusing to think about. Then thought of class brought back the assignments she had to mark. Adrianna bit her bottom lip for a moment; she really would have to mark them for the next morning’s class. But she could spare a few moments. “I am going to have to vanish in a moment, I have marking that I really should do for the morning.” She gave a small smile. “But this has been lovely, I mean…” She trailed off for a moment. “Its been nice to be able to talk to you, and don’t think I am going to let you forget about that night on the town.” Adrianna grinned as she faced him and let go of his arm so as soon as they said their goodbyes she could walk back to her office.

Thomas smiled at Adriana as she called his concept interesting. "Panda, she wouldn't want me to spend my life sulking, she'd want me to make something of myself. I think that she'd have encouraged me not to forget, but to move on, and by talking about her, sometimes I feel she's still around, and the impact that she had on my life is still there, even though she's gone. I think talking is better for the soul, as she said"
Thomas explained with another grin. You see, no matter what, no one could take his memories from him, and if he kept talking about her, what she said, the way she looked, how good she smelled, he could never forget her, or the little details about her that were so important. Like the way that one of the sprays she used to use smelled like those midget gem sweets that muggles liked so much. And that she used to love wearing odd socks, for good luck, as she said. She'd never walk under a ladder, and always avoided grates if there were three of them, and all these things, they all made him smile, and he never wanted to forget that. He still kept a few things of hers, but he'd boxed and shipped the rest to her parents with a letter, explaining how much Penny meant to him, how special she was, and that in the years that they did have, the couple were very happy. Her perfume he kept though, along with some pictures of her and them together, and the last bottle of wine that she picked out. He was waiting for something special for that to be drunk, although a part of him never wanted to drink it. "Well I shall do my best to keep you entertained and laughing! Although it would probably be at me, depending on what my dancing is like" Tom joked back, laughing with her as she did. She had a very pretty laugh! Although it matched her in general, or so Thomas thought. She had nice eyes, a tendency to dress well and a great personality. All in all she was a very pretty person! Although it felt strange to be walking with someone out on the grounds, it wasn't unpleasant. In fact, being linked arm in arm with Adrianna was quite soothing, calm and peaceful. He'd not experienced anything like this well matched sensation in a while. It was like sinking into a comfortable sofa. Comfortable, natural, normal, but slightly scary at the same time, because it was such a huge sofa that you couldn't work out how you were going to get up without help, and if possible, without making a complete and utter fool of yourself! Although, sometimes making a fool of yourself wasn't such a bad thing. Besides, if making such a fool of yourself made someone pretty laugh, then it was worth it! And Tom was that kind of person, who would make a fool of himself just to make someone laugh, if that was what it took to bring a smile to their faces. In truth, he enjoyed seeing people happy, and he just wanted to be a part of making someone happy, because he wanted to impact on someone's life too, in a good way of course, and teaching was his current route to that, even though he didn't know how long he'd be doing it for. He'd like to carry on for a while, but he wasn't sure how long the school would let him stay. As long as he proved to be a good teacher and a nice person, who was handy to have around, then he was sure that he'd be good for awhile. "Well he sounds like an amazing man, and he has an amazing grand daughter, he's probably very proud of you" Thomas said with a grin, running his hand through his blonde hair to get it out of his way a little. It was quite warm outside, and Thomas was glad that summer had finally made it's way through and found the castle, as it seemed to take long enough! Thomas loved the summer, the sun, and the heat. He loved going to muggle London in the summer too, as the smell of barbeques was everywhere, and it always smelled lovely! "I know what you mean, sometimes it's like they just want to get out, but you get some students that surprise me every lesson" Tom answered, the same grin still on his soft face. He was happy, he had a great woman for company, the sun was shining, and he couldn't stop smiling! "Ah, duty calls, eh?" He replied, a little sad that she would have to leave as he was enjoying her company, but he knew that there was work to be done, and he should probably go and make some lesson plans anyway. "Please don't let me forget! And it has been lovely! It's nice to have some great, talkative company! Many of the teachers here are, well, not happy when I shoot their ears off about any old thing, but you seemed to listen, so thank you" He said with a smile, turning and pecking her on the cheek, as customary with many gentlemen bidding goodbye to good company.
